December 2014, the local government in Cape Flats shut down 70% of ECD schools due to building code violations and other things. Violence against children in this area has increased greatly in the last few months and there is a huge need for young children to have a safe place to learn, play, and grow. With your help Hope Africa Collective will launch 4 new schools this year, providing a safe environment for 100 young children that otherwise would not have access to it. Will you join us?
South Africa's Western Cape Province is home to 532,097 children under the age of 5. Recent ECD audit data indicates that more than 40% of these children have no access to facilities or education. At the end of 2014, nearly 70% of the ECD schools in the greater Cape Town area were declared unfit for children to be in, leaving even more children without a school to call their own. The closings related to the structure themselves which were often just shacks, as well as to the curriculum.
Hope Africa Collective is going to come alongside schools to help in training local teachers as well as bringing their school buildings up to code so that they can continue to operate and meet the desperate needs of the children in their community. We have chosen to specifically target the younger generation of learners with a Early Childhood Development model that will transform children and thus communities, helping 100 young students this year and more in the future.
UNICEF and others state the power in engaging children under 7 years old as having direct and profound impacts on future crime rates, employment rates, and health. Not only will we make an impact in the lives of 100 children this year but also the lives of the teachers and assistants we employ each year.
