We are deeply saddened with the two devastating earthquakes that caused massive damage in eleven cities in southeastern Anatolia.

CYDD has about 3500 scholarship students from the area and about half of them are university students. We immediately set up a on-line crisis center and tried to reach every one of the students and asked about their needs. 70% of them had to leave their damaged houses and had to stay elsewhere or slept outside or in their cars.

The day after the earthquake we started transferring 1000 tl to their accounts to cover immediate needs. We then focused on individual needs through our crisis center of 200 volunteers who worked 18 hours every day and coordinated the needs with various sources of supply.

CYDD has 8 local branches in this area and they were a safe haven for the students in need .

At the end of the second week we could secure a permission to transport to Kahramanmaras and Hatay standard food and hygiene boxes bought by individual donors from the source we specified and CYDD headquarters team and students distributed these to nearby villages where rescue efforts were negligible.

After the eartquake many families had to leave their unhabitable houses and moved to nearby cities of Mersin, Antalya, Izmir, Malatya and Ankara where they were given temporary lodgings. With this internal migration, CYDD branches in these host cities started to accept new applications for scholarships. At the moment we have accepted 350 university students from various levels; some are seniors, some are freshman and we believe this number will increase at least to 1000. We will be incorporating these students into our scholarship program and support them until graduation. Most students had to leave their personal belongings in the damaged houses and we plan to give them computers if we can raise enough funds.

Since we started to give scholarships to university students in 1995, we have supported 57,963 students. Of these students 70% were female students i.e. 40.671 were girls and 17.292 were boys. The number is in favor of female students because any CYDD high school scholarship graduate (all girls) who goes on to university is automatically entitled to university scholarship.

This year we have 1403 new high school female graduates who will be starting university. 13.420 university students have been receiving scholarships during 2021-2022 .This year we plan to take on 3.352 new students.

Due to high inflation and increased costs of living, we have increased the scholarship amount by 50% to 4.500 tl/year/student and will be giving an extra 1.000 tl/year to 500 students to help them to cope with increasing accommodation costs.

We have already received 27.756 new scholarship applications this year and are in the process of selecting the students who will be eligible for a scholarship in 2022-2023.

CYDD gives university scholarships directly to girls previously receiving high school scholarships from CYDD and who succeed in the university exams. 2021-2022 university entrance exams were held on June 20^thand results will be announced on July 20^th. This year1210high school scholarship students graduated from 12^thgrade and we are waiting for their exam results. We hope they will be successful in the exams with the additional educational support we have given during the school year.

During 2021-2022 we have given scholarships to13420university students. In 2022-2023, the yearly scholarship amount we give to students will be increased by 40% due to the high inflation rate we are facing, but with your support we wish to continue giving scholarships to new university students.

For the school term 2021-2022, 8697 female and 4686 male students received university scholarships. 1708 of these students started university this year.

Many of our high school scholarship students do not have the means to go to private university preparation courses and their success in university exams is not very high. Last year, we started a new Project called “from high school to university” partnering with Saryer Academy.

12年级的女高中生others who have graduated previously were accepted to these courses given by Saryer Academy and the study material already paid by Cydd was also supplied. For these on-line courses, Cydd also provided notebook computers to some students.This year we have seen incredible results of this Project and of the 2000 high school graduates , 662 female students were successful in the university exams and enrolled. 405 high school graduates of previous years were also successful . So a total of 1067 new female students started university this year.

This is a 38 % success rate that doubled the rate of previous years which on average was about 17%.
