Our AmeriCorps members are often the first crisis response our neighbors see. In the past two years, our AmeriCorps have been on the front lines of flood relief, tornado response, and hunger through our food bank. Here at Martha O'Bryan Center, we host more than 10 AmeriCorps each year to help us with our mission of defeating poverty in our community. While our programs run year-round, our AmeriCorps' approach to service learning and volunteering is vital in our work.
Many of our programs are already strapped. Our AmeriCorps members are often the first face people see when they need and ask for help. Nashville in the past two years has survived a devastating tornado and flooding, just a year later. Our AmeriCorps service members have assisted with crisis response in multiple areas.
The intention of this project is to assist our AmeriCorps service members in the work they're already doing. Non-profit funding is always challenging, and it's often even more challenging for our AmeriCorps members. Your support help us ensure the continued success of AmeriCorps.
Without assistance after natural disasters, many families are not able to rebuild. Loss of a home or other property can be a devastating blow to many, often sending families into poverty. The impact of AmeriCorps service members is long-lasting. Their work helps families feel safe and secure. Crisis response is not a short-term time table; it can take years.
