Since 2008, the 10,655 supporters of the Girl Effect Fund have raised more than $2 million for the future of girls around the world! The Girl Effect has been so successful in its mission that it has spun-off into its own nonprofit organization! Although Girl Effect has closed this project on GlobalGiving, they are still working hard to serve girls.
We had three solid reasons why we wanted you to invest your time, energy, and capital in an adolescent girl: 1) Girls are agents of change. They play a crucial role in solving the most persistent development problems facing the world today. 2) People assume girls are being reached, but they aren't. 3) The cost of excluding girls is high. In India, adolescent pregnancy results in nearly $10billion in lost potential income. The question isn't "why girls?" It's "why wait?". This hasn't changed.
Our project offered ways to help: Sending a girl to school. Helping fight her legal case. Giving her a microloan and helping her solve the social, economic & environmental problems she faces through entrepreneurship. Today, Girl Effect builds media that girls want, trust and need. From chat-bots to chat-shows and TV dramas to tech, we talk with girls directly. Creating safe spaces, sharing facts, and answering questions about health, nutrition, education, relationships and so much more.
When we put girls in control, everyone wins. Because when one girl unlocks her power to make different choices that change her life, it inspires others to do so too. She starts a ripple effect that impacts her family, her community, her country. That's the Girl Effect.
